Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

Just a question to throw out there.I recently bid on and won quite a few auctions from a seller who after the fact cancelled almost all of these sales.I can see if someone is missing a card but to cancel 5 auctions on the same day from the same seller is ridiculous.
Is anyone else out there coming into the same situation? These sellers arent getting the price they thought they would get and then voiding the transaction after its closed. This has already happened to me on quite a few occasions and I dont see it getting any better.

Really? That is sad. I have not had that happen but that needs to be tracked and repeat offenders should be kicked off the site. Who was the seller....I don't want to bid on any auctions they run.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

I have had this happen numerous times. It is always when I have won an item at a ridiculously low price. After the 8 days go by I will try to contact seller only to learn that they have no intent on replying, or sending the card for that matter. In these situations, contact Bill Elder. If it is a new seller, he will most likely cut them some slack, but he has no problem in giving a stern warning or kicking people off the site for repeatedly abusing the Sportsbuys guidelines.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

Guys not sticking up for anyone or not to speak for anyone else , I just found a glitch in the system just now as I was loading up my auctions for the weekend when a seller is listing from there beta page which allows it to be done so much quicker than the old way ( Thank you Sportsbuy ) it is for some reason still sending to auctions items that have been sold and have a 0 in the quantity box . I just put 2000 starting bids on these items and then will go in and delete them after , but last week I had to cancel a transaction because the card was no longer in inventory but was on auction I believe this is how it happened . Now I am sure that is not the reason for every time an item gets cancelled I have had a few myself in the last few weeks and I just mark down the seller and if it happens again with them I will no longer bid on there items .

Sportsbuy if you could please look into this glitch and see why it would pull card with 0 in quantity over to the auction page when listing multiple auctions at once so it does not remain a concern for sellers and buyers.

Thank you all for your business and check out my auctions I will never cancel a transaction cause it sold to cheap and have several hundred auctions up now !!

i think it could be some of that ,,but we all know when you win a nice card for a buck on auction and then the seller never marks shipped and you dont ever get item, and you have emailed and emailed with no replay ,well there it is,,they dident want to sell it that cheap.
and yes writing down the sellers name for yourself to keep track if it happens again is smart. but ive been here at this site ,2003
you see if the seller wont talk to you, after emailing a few times then ,,here it is again ,dident want to sell that cheap,,and if you open dispute and the seller agrees and you get your refund,,there it is again, dident want to sell that cheap.

peace.

guy carper

If your on the ball, you can see that no one is watching it. you can pull it 12 hours before it ends before causing any problems. Anyway I've had alot of sellers renig on the purchase and just not ship.....What bothers me the most is that the money is now tied up for at least 10 days.....Now to further mess up things.....People are saying they never got the item if you do not put delivery confirmation on it.....Its mostly cheap stuff that you would not put a del. conf. on.....Beware of these thieves, there seems to be alot of them on sportsbuy lately.....Big Joe

Don't put ridiculously low start prices on your auctions. In all auction situations, you can start the bidding, I.E., your start price, at the lowest price you would be willing to accept for the item. That way, if someone bids, you will get at least what you can accept. And if no one bids, you haven't lost anything, especially since Sportsbuy doesn't charge a listing fee. I know, some of you will say that the only way to get bidders is to put a very low start price, but if that is how you want to play the game, then be prepared to face the possibility that that one bid could be the only one. And if you want to go that route, you must be prepared to bite the bullet and ship out the card for the 10 cent or whatever bid. You won't be happy, I know, but those are the rules for auctions. You take your best shot. I'm sure you wouldn't be upset if someone way overbid on an item - so don't be upset if one goes for a lot less tahn you think it should. You still have to accept the bid or withdraw your item at least 12 hours before it ends if you're not happy.

Again, never start an auction at less than you can accept, whether that $ 10.00 or 10 cents.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

I think the point I am trying to make is.....Why do they ask for a "lowest selling price". It seems that this piece of information is absolutely useless. It's almost like it is intended to make the seller think it is a reserve, when really it doesn't mean anything at all.
No one would list an item worth $40 BV for $0.10 if they thought they'd have to ship the $40 item for a dime. It doesn't really matter if someone "overpays" for your item because they are aware of what they are bidding. In my case I was unaware that the starting bid was also your reseve.
I will have to disagree with your statement about playing the game. In essence what you are saying is that, "if you don't like how all the bidders on this site will only pay 2%, then don't list your items here."
Well, all I really discovered is that if I had put a 20% BV minimum bid on my items, I wouldn't have received any bids because I can now plainly see that no one was willing to bid more than 2%-3%, at least for my items.
Also: with this site taking $0.40-$0.60 minimum per listing, I don't see why anyone would start their item at a dime because it appears that you would only LOSE money if this item sells.
There are alot of good things about this site, that is what drew me to this site in the 1st place but, there are also alot of issues that need to be resolved & of course this community needs to grow to improve the bidding & sale prices for everyone's items.
I listed a complete set of 2009 McDonalds Hocket (BV=$40) with Checklist set (BV=$20). I also listed a set without the checklists. I listed both these items at the starting bid of a dime but, do you really think I intended to ship $100 BV for eighty five cents?
I set my "price" (whatever that means) at $20 for the sets. 2 days before the auctions ended I lowered this "price" to $10 in an effort to help spur more bids. I didn't lower my "price" to forty five cents because I had no intentions on selling any of my cards for forty five cents.

I spoke with someone named Matt on the phone & he told me that he didn't know what the difference between a lowest selling price & a reserve was. He said he'd look into this & call me back at home but, I haven't heard back from him since this latest interaction.
I'd like to know, now that I have vented & gotten that stuff off my chest, what should I do?
Should I contact the 2 buyers that won my auctions? Should I just leave the site all together?
If anyone wants to review my sales & see what I sold feel free. I just want to resolve this issue & also try to figure out how this site works so I don't make the same mistakes again.
Thanks for any help.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

I too have had this happen several times, with increasing frequency, and often for prices that are not rock bottom. I do not understand the "no longer available" excuse. Once it is put up for auction, it should be "no longer available" for sale by any other means - or cancel the auction if it is in time. I must confess ignorance to the auction selling process, as I have never listed any, but I used to partner with one of the original Naxcom gold premier VIPs and have been on-site for a long time, and have never found the site anything less than incredibly easy to use, and risk-free, as listings are free so nothing is lost by cancelling a listing.

Then there are the people who I buy cards from well below BV at auction, then don't send the cards, don't respond to emails, but respond to a dispute within 5 minutes. At this point, it takes so long to go through the motions on a reversal that it is barely worth doing on a small purchase.

I used to not worry to much about new sellers, because of the guarantee, but now it happens so much that I will probably never buy from a new seller here, which is sad, because when enough people feel the same way, there won't be any new sellers. Unfortunately, the hobby has always had its shady side, which was why Naxcom was started in the first place, but now with the bad economy, things have obviously gotten shadier (are 1/3 of all listings now for autos w/ no coa?).

However, the majority of sellers on this site are fantastic, and thanks to all of those who deliver as advertised, some of whom I recognize in this thread. Let's see some great buys in the new VIP store promotion and see if this thread can get buried.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

To Jayvegas420, where do you find something called lowest selling price. I just double-checked an auction submittal form and what is asked for is the start price and as it states, that is the lowest price you are willing to start an auction at. You do have an option to set a reserve if you wish. But if you are going to use an auction as a vehicle to sell cards, you should, no I should state MUST be willing to accept the results. And this is not just for Sportsbuy auctions, but for eBay or Mastro or even the major New York auction houses. If there is no reserve, then the item goes for the highest bid, even if it is the only bid and you are legally obligated, if anyone wanted to enforce the rule, to sell it at that price and make delivery. If you don't want to play by the rules, don't enter the game. And don't think you can circumvent them by going somewhere else - all valid auction sites use the same rules.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

underneath quantity there is a price. This isthe price I adjusted in the middle of the auction.
I understand how reverves & minimum bids work. I just thought that the price was my reserve. I don't see the point in setting a higher minimum bid because I simply won't receive any bids. This is apparent now that I will have ship over $200 BV for $3.
The reserve wouldn't metter either, as far as selling cards goes because if buyers are paying less than 5% of BV the bids will never reach a reasonable reserve anyway.
The only only silver linning I see around this disappointing dark cloud is that when I ship all these beautiful cards, logically I should be able to purchase $400 of beautiful cards with my $3. Unless I am the only idiot who has made thios mistake here.

I've been trying to sell on Ebay for years & I am a member at Sportscardforum.com. So, I understand what its like to receive low ball offers on my cards but, I don't get offended I simply thank them for their offer & reject it. I feel like here at sportsbuy, my 1st experience has left me unable to reject an obvious low ball offer. I don't care if I can't unload my collection but, I'm also only losing money by selling my collection off for dimes.

Does a reserve cost money when you list?
If i stated that the 2009 UD McDonalds set was 55 cards big why are the shipping charges the same as if I were shipping one single card?
Does it cost money to withdraw funds from my sportsbuy ballance?
What penalties will I incur if I cancel my auctions now that they have ended?

Jay,
I take offense to your statement about how the buyers here will only pay 2 - 3 % of book , because I won alot of your auctions and I happen to be in the top ten in sales most months . For one I sell alot of stuff here and there are some great buyers on the site and like Hodo said don't put a starting price that you can't live with if that is all your item will bring . If you want to cancel all of the auctions I won from you go ahead i am getting used to it happening but don't state you didn't know how it worked . If you have sold on any of the auction sites they all work the same . So please if you would like to cancel all the items I won I will give you a mulligan and chalk it up to a mistake Just please do it right away so my money can get back into my account . If you look at most recent transactions you will see that some stuff sells really well here and it is a great site.

Thank you

Mark Stoddard

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

Firstly I'd like to say that you cannot convince me or anyone else in the forums that you didn't get the deal of the century.
You in fact, DID get my cards for 2%-3% of BV so, I don't care to pursue that argument.
No one bothered to outbid you & this only indicates that my card are worth very little here. Even if I had listed the cards properly with reserves I can only assume that they would not have sold. You were the only one who thought they were worth 3% of BV.
Secondly I dod not mean to impune your selling status here. If you are somehow garnering more than 25% of BV you ARE doing very well here & I did not meant to critisize.
Lastly I appreciate you comenting in here & addressing the situation. I think because this site focusses primarly on sportscards that it can attract a specific market & grow as more collectors & dealers become more aware of the site. I appreciate the recant on the cards & if it is all the same to you I'd like to try & compromise by shipping the three BAP AUTOs & one complete set 2009 UD McDonalds Hockey.
If, for whatever reason you'd still prefer to cancel the auctions I would understand.
I don't want to start off here on a bad note & I guess I should have played with the software & learned how to apply reserves to my cards before I listed some of my nicest cards 1st.
I'm quite obviously a low end collector. I collect trade bait & when I pull a big money card I generally sell it quickly & cheaply.
I'd like to continue contributing to this site & hopefully I can promote the site in the next few months to help grow it's popularity.

I would say cancel them all no hard feelings I did get a steal , In the future I would say just use the minimum you would take as your starting bid and I believe you may be surprised how well you can do here . Not a big deal let's chalk it up to a mistake no hard feelings. I would also recommend to get more looks go to the feature seller on the auction section it is like .35 cents per day and gets me alot more looks on each item.

Good luck

Mark

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

As a new seller of a couple of months here on sportsbuy..i cant really see why sellers would put auctions with .10 cents starting bids....for base cards its understandable ...but for GU, Auto, or sets its ridiculous...of course you want to people to bid on your auctions but the end result is that your auction could go for .10 cents....sometimes you have to roll with the punches..I've sold many cards on ebay for less than half BV but I never renig on a sell....its not the buyers fault for winning the auction for .10 cents its the seller....but hey if you really want to make a sell click on this link

http://cgi.ebay.com/08-Rookie-Threads-Matt-Ryan-Harry-Douglas-Dual-Auto_W0QQitemZ330326212400QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_SM_Sports_Cards?hash=item4ce8f9ff30&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

then you won't have to worry bout .10 cent auctions........

I've been reading all the responses since I started this topic and it seems everyone thats cancelled auctions after they have closed are just using lame excuses for doing whatever they please once they dont get the price they expect. When I started on here I read thru the various sell topics which was very easy reading and found out how to buy, sell and so on.So now I am reading about how people didnt know what the starting price meant and what is the reserve price.Cmon give me a break!
You mean to tell me if u had a $50 card and you knew you wouldnt sell for say no less then $20 then why would u put a starting bid at .10c with no reserve price?
I have had at least 15 cancelled auctions in the past 3 weeks and all these were from new sellers and I am not talking about one card auctions which I can live with because things happen and cards get lost or misplaced.
When I started on here it was Naxcom and I know they wouldnt have accepted whats been happening on this site with all this cancelling auctions and all the other stuff.I know one thing I am really disappointed on whats been happening lately on Sportsbuy.
When Sportsbuy put in that option to cancel auctions after they are over thats when all of this started, whats next?An option for buyers to cancel after the auction closes too?Lets see what these sellers that cancel auctions would feel like if that option was allowed for buyers use.Wouldnt like that too much would you?

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

Chadzx11,

You just sent an email to me today about this issue and I responded right away that customer care would investigate and then let you know...and from what I understand, this has now been resolved. So why did you post this kind of message on the message boards the same day?! Plus, you said that you sent an email to customer care last week and never got a response. Yet, I pointed out to you that you were using the wrong email for customer care. As noted on the website, their email is customercare@sportsbuy.com.

As for cancelling auctions, customer care does keep a log of sellers and buyers and once they have a habit of unwanted behavior, the users will be warned and then suspended. If you are a VIP, please contact me and I will personally check on the sellers and take the appropriate disciplinary action. However, it's important to note that every one of you that has posted here have a reversal, cancellation or some other activity that is not condoned on SportsBuy, and yet we try to give users the benefit of the doubt...up to a point of course. So keep that in mind.

For all non-VIP's...if you have a problem, send an email to customer care or call them directly and they will work with you to get things resolved. Bottom line is...you wouldn't get this kind of response or personal service anywhere else.

Regards,

-Bill Elder
Director - SportsBuy VIP Dept.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

I typed in the wrong email address today. I got a bounce back almost as soon as I hit send. Bill, I don't believe I would have ever gotten a response if it had not been for you, so thank you. A recap of what happened today:

a) Recieved 3 of 7 auction wins. Having never heard back from customer care, this caused an urgent "what the heck is going on" situation.

b) Started poking around account. Found no auctions awaiting payment. Only three of seven listed in current purchases. All seven are listed on "auctions won." ZERO are listed under "pay for auctions I won." Check cash account. Find money removed only for 3.

c) Email Bill and customer care simultaneously. I only emailed bill because customer care never responded (they even said they were backed up).

d) post update here

e) hear back from Bill, recieve 7 more EOAs and this time 7 purchase notifications. Check cash account. Yup. They charged me for the three I got in the mail today....

f) let customer care know, at the same time the seller is going what the heck is going on. He also lets them know about the double charge, because he doesn't have duplicate cards to send.

g) cc starts reversal procedure which could take 2 days according to the email.

h) Get call from seller, apologizing profusely, though it wasn't his fault. Thanks for the call, by the way. Always nice to talk shop. The seller is a great guy. Too bad nobody bid against me.

i) recieve email from Bill. He is dissapointed that I uncorked a "nasty" post on here.

I disagree that saying someone needs to get their head on straight is "nasty." I did not intend to offend anyone, though.

Re:Sellers cancelling transactions after sales

sounds like sportbuy got alittle pissy with ya,,,dont let it bug ya ,we must all understand that things have to be dealt with here for the site to keep growing. if i had a prob and sportsbuy came at me like i was starting shit i would not take it. but i must say sportbuy is fair, and with all the emails and calls they are getting they might feel alittle pissed and behind on getting back to all the folks. here what i think, i buy and sell here but its for fun only i dont need to make money selling cards, but some sellers here make a living selling cards so i can see why tempers fly here at times. i can see sportsbuy giving the bad sellers a warning and if that dont work them give them the boot.
but again i think everyones missing the deal here, if i ran this site i would do some things differnt but as far a just kicking everyone who messes up here off is wrong. we all say give them the boot ,but were not runing this site sportsbuy is so with all the blaming sportsbuy for not doing anything about this prob is just no right, they are doing things about it. i see most folks here blaming sportsbuy for not acking lighting fast, it dont work like that, even the crap sellers have rights and sportsbuy make money off them as well . so i can see why they take this prob slow and not rush things. many factors come in to play here, 1, is the seller new and just ignorant,2, is it a seller whos cancaled before more then one item at a time. 3, did the seller make a mistake not knowing that was wrong. this is what sportbuy must look into first i would think. anyways keep your head up high.

peace
guy

Sellers cancelling transactions after sales
Just a question to throw out there.I recently bid on and won quite a few auctions from a seller who after the fact cancelled almost all of these sales.I can see if someone is missing a card but to cancel 5 auctions on the same day from the same seller is ridiculous.
Is anyone else out there coming into the same situation? These sellers arent getting the price they thought they would get and then voiding the transaction after its closed. This has already happened to me on quite a few occasions and I dont see it getting any better.
I've run into that lately on a few purchases, and I agree with your thoughts. I've even had sellers mark the item shipped-one seller even marked it shipped twice. As for the sellers feedback ratings, I've yet to see anyone with negative feedback-they're all 100%- I wonder what it takes to file a visible complaint against those type of sellers to protect us serious buyers?, and at the same time let them learn a lesson!

can you even leave FB? I ended up buying some cards--8 of them--of the guy whose auction got cancelled from me. HOWEVER, I bought them off of sportlots, and not on sportsbuy. I didn't want to gamble on whether or not a SB seller would ship out immediately of if they would sit on my order like last time. Marking it shipped 4 days after the order, and sitting on it another 3 days before actually taking it to the post office. The sportlots seller marked it shipped the same day. I don't need them until the 25th, so plenty of time.....

That said, their interface is so cumbersome, it took an hour to fill up a cart with 40 cards. I could have done that on sportsbuy in 15 or 20 minutes, easily, and probably got free shipping to boot ($16 order).

that card--the peyton hillis with the 95 SP design, never became available anywhere else that I could find.

Thank you all for your posts,

If you experience any problems with sellers or buyers not following through with their auctions, please contact customer care and let them know and they will monitor and note chronic abusers and will discipline them accordingly. However, please also know that there are a lot of new auction sellers coming to SportsBuy that don't understand that SportsBuy is different than other auction sites they may be used to...so we educate them that they should start their auction at the minimum price they would need, but low enough to encourage bidders. But as noted before, if they continue to cancel auctions after selling, then we need to know about it and they will be disciplined accordingly. Lastly, if you are a VIP, contact Bill Elder at b.elder@sportsbuy.com and he will assist you in solving these issues.

Also, yes you do have the ability to leave feedback for sellers and we do have many sellers that are not 100%. All negative feedback goes through SportsBuy customer care who will assess each one and then assign ratings accordingly. In this way, it will ensure that buyers can place negative ratings without fearing retaliation from the seller, while also protecting sellers from buyers that leave unwarranted negative feedback. This will guarantee REAL feedback for buyers and sellers.

Regards,
Sportsbuy Management
