Wax,

You seem to have a love affair with Upper Deck and that's ok, but if i pulled that card from a $4 pack I would like it very much!

Hey, $800 PLUS for 2009-10 Exquisite PACKS .... NOW that's scandalous and almost criminal to the average collector. That's alot of REAL BOXES for that kind of money.

It's definately CRAZY!

Also, what's crazy all this MADE UP PATCHES --- That's needs to stop!

Give Panini a chance to screw up before you judge them.

personally the manufactured patches aren't my bag and everybody that comments on them seems to loathe them, but i can't help but notice that they sell pretty well. from the standpoint of my store, i just try to fill it with stuff i think people will want, and folks seem to want manufactured patches.

btw, anybody can click my www button and search my store for "patch" to see what i have--the manufactured and the real ones.

Phosgene,

I dont like them but the do sell, BUT they do not been be high price hit .... The are better served as coasters (see Hitler box break on YouTube)

They a cheap substitute for real game used or autographs. The should not equate to real hit in a $100 plus box.

the crazy thing is that in a down economy, the NBA granted an exclusive license to a new entrant - products with no continuity and no reputation in the sport - pretty questionable. And the rationale for topps with baseball - that consumers are confused by a deluge of product - is made worse. the problem (if any) was not that too many companies made cards, but that each maker had about 20 different product lines - I'm sure that's gonna get a lot worse now that one company is the lone producer for nba and mlb. i think mlb will be fine, i plan on being a lot more active with vintage bk and a lot less active with the current product. what happens if this years rookie crop turns out like 00-01 (best players turkoglu, lamar odom, kenyon martin, steve francis, elton brand, maybe i'm forgetting someone) - not much of a reputation made in bk if that happens.

Don't forget that it isn't about the name, numbers or serial number. Collector's have paid an extreme for SP authentic and Exquisite cards just on name alone, where companies like Collector's Edge and Pacific have slipped through the cracks despite overloading their products like Upperdeck. this is what I see in the future of Panini. High dollar collector's revolutionized the industry in the 2000's and will determine whether or not Panini sinks or swims. Despite peoples opinion, the last Ten years have been the most exciting and profitable. My advice is to salvage whatever you can (i.e. Exquisite, Lebron Auto's etc...) from the last 8 years while you can and watch them increase in value as the products become extinct. There is no doubt this Era will be the most collected/valuable Era of all time

Anybody who knows anything about cards know that manufacturer patches are "dummy cards" unless they are auto'd, which is why they don't carry a huge resale value. I would rather get a manu'd patch then a blank piece of cardboard. They put them in to throw off "pack feelers". I don't like them either but I am not complaining about my 1/1 Griffey auto. It's better than just an on card sig.

i think it was 1990, when topps didn't have an nfl license, they produced a set with no logos that had a disclaimer on the back that they were not licensed, and around mid-season, they got a license, removed the disclaimer, and the cards were every bit as cruddy and still had no logos. anybody know if topps is planning on releasing an nba set this year?

If you read the thread you'll see that Phosgene and Rookies were the ones who were ripping me for contributing to a company which creates manufactured patches, which I was defending UD for creating. The intention of the cards were to be low priced pack fillers. Clearly you aren't reading the facts.

Dummy cards are what you call the pack fillers such as blank cardboard or Promos which were created to throw those who "feel, bend, or weigh" packs with. It was also possible to use a micrometer to judge the width of a pack before the dummy cards were used.
