GOOD THREAD!

I haven't pulled anything as valuable as the Mantle or a Jordan rookie, But I have a cool story about my first pull in 20 years:

3 months ago I noticed a new card shop in my area (one that had re-located from across town) and decided to stop in. The guy there told me how cards and collecting had become something totally different than the last thing I had bought--an '89 Upper Deck baseball set.

He clued me in to how cards from the late 80s and early 90s had been so produced that they were worth next-to-nothing. He explained the new breed of cards with factory autographs and jersey/bat/ball relic cards. I was intrigued and asked for a pack of 2007 Bowman Football--my first card purchase since I was 12.

Upon opening that pack--which happened to be the LAST PACK of the LAST BOX of '07 Bowman in the store, I found a Reggie Bush Signature Series hand-written serial numbered out of 50 card.

I am not a huge Saints or Bush fan, but that single pull revived my appreciation for the hobby. And here I am, in the shop twice a week, much to the grief of my girlfriend. Bless her heart.

This is my best pull but the story is what makes it so sweet.

I had just returned from Afghanistan and was visiting my local card shop and purchased a few boxes. The owner had a program when you purchased $20 worth of cards you could roll a dice and win a free card. He was glad to see me back safe and put a 2007 Ultimate Collection pack in slot 1-5. To win the pack I needed to roll a 1 and than 5. I won the pack and inside was this duel autographed card of Cal Ripken Jr and Carl Yastremski numbered 7/8!

Not bad for a roll of the dice!

Way to go Joe-this is COOL! I've been fortunate enough to get some great pulls out of retail boxes-nothing lately though unfortunately-but heres a few of some of my favorites, especially that I could share the joy with my daughter(the lucky one)-of course I bought the boxes on occasion,1/2 the packs went to her, the other 1/2 went to my son-I enjoyed watching them in anticipation of a good pull-one afternoon I gave her some packs of 2000 Legends of N.Y-within 2 mins. she said " hey Dad, I think I got a good card "- sure enough, it was a Reggie Jackson/Dave Winfield Dual Auto #25/25 !!!! SWEET !!!! Then, within a month of that, guess what-same scenario-I heard a scream of joy coming from the living room-guess what she had in her hand- 2001 Babe Ruth All-Star Bat Ser. #'d /1933 !!!! Couple others I was lucky enough to pull were a 2001 Donruss Diamond King Reprint auto of Cal Ripken Jr. #'d 85, and then out of 2002 Topps Ten I pulled a Barry Bonds on-card auto. At the moment I still have no desire to part with any of them, and every one of those was from a retail box! It somehow seems like those type of valuable cards are a rarity in retail anymore, because I still buy alot and haven't even come close to getting anything other than your dime a dozen jersey cards, or an auto of someone who never has,nor probably never will see any playing time.AHHHHHHH, those were the days!
